Longing for Spring

Peering out the open window

To the cold, damp grounds of winter,

Our hearts ache and feel low.

The sky’s canvas painted in matte, grayish hues

Serves as the backdrop of a winter’s day

Slowly gathering crystallized flakes of dew.

As the calendar moves closer to March,

The perennials ache to push through the soaked soil

From all of winter’s replenishing, leaving nothing parched.

We anticipate the bright, fresh hint of green

Peeking out ready for the sun’s splendor,

As we long for spring to persistently be seen.
